Get rid of the January Blues by wearing Red on 1st Feb

Increasing awareness about heart disease amongst women continues to be a top priority for Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital and the reason why we launched our Red Dress Campaign.

On Friday 1st February 2013 we are joining forces with our partners, the USA Heart Truth Campaign, to raise awareness of heart disease in women.  By wearing red on this day you can help us by raising funds to support this very worthwhile cause so that we can improve the lives of women over the age of 18 suffering from heart disease.

We're here to make a difference so please join us and wear RED on 1st Feb.

Thank you. For more information please call Chris Bell on 0151 600 1409

The goal of our Red Dress Campaign is to give women a personal and urgent wake up call because heart disease is no longer a man's disease - it is the biggest killer of women in the UK.

It's a sad fact that every year 1 in 7 women will die from coronary heart disease (CHD), 3.5 times more than breast cancer which is thought to be a woman's main fear.

Here on Merseyside heart disease and stroke are the biggest killers of women over 40, but across the country 1 million women suffer from Angina and 430,000 women live with heart failure.   Our Red Dress Campaign is committed to helping to reduce these statistics and to remind women just how important they are and why they need to start looking after their heart health.

In today's society the majority of women put their children, families, career, home and finances ahead of their own needs - inlcuding their health.  Understandably such pressures can contribute towards the factors of heart disease and stroke.

A damaged heart can damage your life by interfering with enjoyable activities and even your ability to do simple things, such as taking a walk or climbing steps. Heart disease cannot be “cured.” It is a lifelong condition—once you get it, you’ll always have it.

Fortunately, it’s a problem you can do something about. Find out your risk for heart disease and take steps to prevent and control it.   Start taking action today to protect your heart.

By doing just 4 things—eating right, being physically active, not smoking and keeping a healthy weight—you can reduce your risk of heart disease by as much as 82 percent.

If you are concerned that you may be at risk from heart disease and stroke please contact your GP practice today.  Alternatively for more information on the risks and effects of heart disease log onto www.nhs.uk or call NHS Direct on 0845 4647.
