Research Output
Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital has had numerous research successes in recent years.
Since 2008, LHCH has increased the number of peer reviewed, high quality research studies supported by the National Institute of Health Research by 300%. We continue to be one of the highest recruiters in Cheshire and Merseyside.
Since April 2015, more than 3,500 people have taken part in research and clinical trials at Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital.
We are at the forefront of clinical research. Our researchers are world leaders in their fields of expertise.
We currently have in excess of 50 clinical trials currently open at the Trust under 5 themes:
- Aorta
- Respiratory
- Cardiac
- Surgery
- Lung Cancer
We have launched our new Research Strategy which was approved by the Board of Directors. It is bold, challenging and focuses on tightening our links with industry to further develop our research successes and, on education and training of our research staff.
An excellent MSc module on cardiothoracic nursing run by Imperial College London (our academic partner through the Institute of Cardiovascular Medicine and Science) at the Trust has been delivered to our research nurses since 2013. This is an excellent example of the quality of the education on offer.
The number of publications in scientific and medical journals authored by our researchers continues to thrive. This reflects the quality of our research and the impact it has on the delivery of patient care.
