New Year, New You Health Event and Behind the Scenes Tours
Free health event for LHCH Members
Saturday 2nd February 2013, 10am - 2pm
Is your new year’s resolution to eat healthy food, lose weight or do more exercise? To tie in with National Heart Month we will be holding a free Health Event at Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital between 10am and 2pm.
Health Checks:
Body Composition Assessment (Body MOT): The machine used in the assessment calculates body composition using bio-electrical impedance analysis (BIA). Safe low level electric signals are passed through the body by the footpads. It is easier for the signal to flow through fluids in muscle and body tissues but meet resistance through body fat, as it contains little fluid. This resistance is called impedance. This data is calculated into medically researched mathematical formulas to calculate body composition.
Body Fat % - Reducing body fat has shown to reduce the risk of certain conditions such as High Blood Pressure, Heart Disease, Diabetes and Cancer.
Total Body Water (TBW) % - Total Body Water is the total amount of fluid in a persons’ body expressed as a percentage of total weight. Water plays a vital role in many body processes and is found in every cell, tissues and organ. Maintaining a healthy total body water % will ensure the body functions efficiently and reduce risk of associated health problems. Body water % should act as a guide and not to determine absolute recommended TBW.
Muscle mass - Indicates the weight of muscle mass in your body. Muscle mass displayed does include skeletal muscles, smooth muscles (cardiac/digestive) and water within these muscles. As muscle mass increase they act as the engine in consuming energy. As muscle mass increases your energy consumption increases helping to reduce excess body fat and lose weight in a healthy way (providing extra calories that are not consumed that is)
Visceral fat rating - Visceral fat is the fat that is in the internal abdominal cavity, surrounding vital organs of the trunk (abs area). Research shows that even if your weight and body fat remains constant, as you get older the distribution of fat changes and is more likely to shift to the trunk area especially post menopause. Ensuring you have the healthy levels of visceral fat may reduce the risk of certain diseases such as heart disease, high blood pressure, and type 2 diabetes.
Appointments are limited therefore, to avoid disappointment please ensure you book on your preferred health check by calling the Membership Office on 0151 600 1410 or by emailingmembership.office@lhch.nhs.uk.
