Critical and intensive care

Our critical care pharmacists work across both the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and Post-Op Critical Care Unit (POCCU) providing medication advice to a variety of groups. This includes doctors, nurses, advanced nurse practitioners, patients and relatives to name a few.

Daily reviews of critical care patients ensure our pharmacists are able to provide accurate and up to date medication advice based on each patient’s unique situation.

The team review and suggest changes to medications on a daily basis and ensure blood tests are completed for critical medicines. This helps to make sure they are working as best they can.

The pharmacists work closely with colleagues in the critical care team, attending a number of ward rounds and daily multidisciplinary team meetings.

They also work closely with pharmacist colleagues on our surgical wards (some of the team work in surgery too) in order to provide seamless care when patients are discharged from critical care to a ward.
