NHS Staff Survey 2020 - LHCH one of the best hospitals once again

LHCH is one of the best hospitals in the country according to the results of this year’s national NHS Staff Survey.

The survey results of 280 NHS organisations, published on Thursday 11th March, showed that LHCH was the TOP specialist trust in the country for five key themes:

  • Safety Culture
  • Equality, diversity and inclusion
  • Staff engagement
  • Team working
  • Immediate managers

The findings also showed that LHCH was the best performing organisation in the country for six key findings, including:

  • Does your organisation act fairly with regard to career progression / promotion, regardless of ethnic background, gender, religion, sexual orientation, disability or age?
  • When errors, near misses or incidents are reported, my organisation takes action to ensure that they do not happen again.
  • I am confident that my organisation would address my concern.
  • My organisation acts on concerns raised by patients / service use.

The NHS Staff Survey was carried out between September and December 2020 and was completed by 1,125 staff (65%) at LHCH – a 1% increase from 2019 – which compares with a national response rate of 47%. The Survey looked at 10 ‘themes’ including quality of care, safety culture, staff engagement, and health and wellbeing.

Jane Tomkinson, Chief Executive, said: “This year has been the most difficult that NHS staff have ever known. I am incredibly proud of our staff who have responded so well to the challenges of covid-19 and have continued delivering the very best care for our patients and families.

“It’s also pleasing that our staff have responded positively to this year’s NHS Staff Survey, especially in recognising our outstanding safety culture at LHCH, and also recognising the importance we place on staff engagement, team working and inclusion.

“Once again we’re grateful to all those staff who took time to complete the annual survey, and look forward to marking these achievements later on this year.”
