NHS Leaders thank Liverpool City Region Combined Authority and Merseytravel for free travel during lockdown

As the region’s Coronavirus NHS free travel scheme comes to an end, we want to express our gratitude to the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority and Merseytravel.

Over the last four months, our NHS staff have been able to travel on buses, rail and Mersey Ferries for free, while they fought against the pandemic.

The challenge that coronavirus poses to the NHS is unprecedented, and to have had the steadfast support of the city region and travel operators was invaluable. It meant that staff could get to work, where they were needed most, safely during the height of the peak of COVID-19, and for that we are truly grateful.

It is a testament to their dedication in how swiftly they acted in introducing this scheme, and how it is one of the last in the country to end – making losses as they did so. We also thank your staff, for stepping up to keep transport links open when they were needed most.

We thank you wholeheartedly for aiding the important work of our staff in caring for patients with COVID-19.
