LHCH Adult Congenital Heart Disease and Cardiac Imaging Cardiologist has consensus statements published in European Heart Journal
We are pleased to share the recent contributions of Dr Sarah Moharem Elgamal, Consultant Cardiologist in Adult Congenital Heart Disease and Cardiac Imaging at LHCH, to two clinical consensus statements published in the European Heart Journal.
Dr Elgamal is the first author of the European consensus statement on the implementation of cardiac MRI in everyday cardiology practice and a co-author of the corresponding statement on cardiac CT.
Both documents are aimed particularly at cardiologists and clinicians who do not routinely perform advanced cardiac imaging. They provide practical guidance on when and why to request cardiac CT or MRI, what information each investigation can provide, how to interpret key findings in imaging reports, and how these findings can support clinical decision-making.
The statements address common clinical scenarios across coronary artery disease, heart failure, cardiomyopathies, valvular heart disease and congenital heart disease, helping clinicians integrate cardiac imaging more effectively into everyday patient care.
Dr Elgamal said: “I’m delighted that our clinical consensus statements have now been published in the European Heart Journal. Our aim was to make cardiac magnetic resonance more accessible and clinically useful to the general cardiologist and the non-CMR expert. I hope it will serve as a practical resource for cardiologist colleagues across Europe and help bridge the gap between advanced cardiovascular imaging and everyday clinical practice.”
Dr Elgamal has served on the Board of the European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging (EACVI), part of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC), for the past four years. She is currently Chair of Web and Communication and CMR Councillor.
She has contributed to the development and implementation of the EACVI Cardiac CT certification programme and will be taking on the role of Co-Chair of CT Certification and Accreditation. Her previous involvement includes the EACVI Education Committee, CMR laboratory accreditation and cardiovascular imaging education initiatives.
These contributions form part of LHCH’s wider involvement in clinical research, education and international collaboration.
