We are looking for volunteers to join our Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement Group entitled 'PARTNER'. Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) describes the different ways in which members of the public can inform and shape research. We want your views and experiences to help improve how we plan, deliver and communicate research with patients.
PPIE is different to research participation where members of the public can directly take part in a study (for example, as part of a clinical trial). Public involvement describes when members of the public use their views and personal experience to help to plan, deliver, evaluate and share health research.
At Liverpool Heart and Chest, our goal is to carry out research ‘with’ or ‘by’ patients and members of the public rather than ‘to’, ‘about’ or ‘for’ them:
We have developed an active Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) group of people who have an interest in Research.
If you choose to become a PPIE member, you will be invited to meetings and asked to comment on documents, and we will ask your opinion on how a research study should work.
What you tell us will help make research more relevant and improve the quality of treatment and care.
What do PARTNER members do?

Members meet a few times a year to discuss the following
- Review studies and give feedback on how to their journey in the research could be improved
- Give feedback to researchers on the best way to approach patient groups
- Help to identify research priorities
- Any other aspects of the patients involvement in research that might be beneficial for patients.
Who can take part?
Anyone can take part! Patients, friends, family, ex-patient, members of the public and many more meet a few times a year to discuss and improve research in the trust. If you’re over the age of 18 you can apply to become a member.
