LHCH announce new shared Chief Executive
Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (LHCH) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Liz Bishop as its new shared Chief Executive, following a formal recruitment process.
Liz will assume joint leadership responsibilities at LHCH from 1st February 2024, whilst continuing as Chief Executive of The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre (CCC) NHS Foundation Trust, a role she has held since 2018.
A nurse by background, Liz has held clinical and managerial positions over the years, including Head of Nursing and General Manager at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, as well as Deputy Chief Executive at The Royal Marsden in London.
Val Davies, LHCH Chair, said: “We are delighted to have appointed Liz as our new Chief Executive at LHCH.
“As well as bringing a wealth of NHS leadership experience and knowledge of the Cheshire and Mersey health system, her achievements at CCC demonstrate that she shares the same values and commitment to outstanding patient and family centred care, as we do here at LHCH.
“We have always taken great pride in working collaboratively with other healthcare organisations across the region, and we are a proud partner of the Cheshire & Merseyside Integrated Care System. This collaboration, always done for the best interests of patients and to improve outcomes, includes the Cheshire and Merseyside Acute and Specialist Trust Alliance and delivering the opportunities highlighted in the Liverpool Clinical Services Review.
“In Liz’s role as senior responsible officer for the Cheshire & Merseyside Cancer Alliance, she has been pivotal in overseeing the whole cancer ‘pathway’, from screening and diagnosis, through to treatment and other wraparound services. In recent years, she has actively supported strong relationships with our clinical teams at LHCH, the development of dedicated cardio-oncology services between the two trusts, and the continued growth of lung cancer services.
“This move to a shared CEO model with Liz, who already understands the outstanding services provided at LHCH, is a fantastic opportunity for two of the country’s leading specialist trusts to share expertise, and to work more closely across cancer pathways and for the benefit of all patients, partners and populations.
“I am also confident that Liz will build on the outstanding foundations put in place over the last 10 years by our outgoing CEO, Jane Tomkinson, as she prepares to take up her post at the Countess of Chester. Everyone at LHCH wishes Jane well in her new role.”
The move towards a shared CEO model, comes with the full support of NHS Cheshire & Merseyside and the respective Boards at LHCH and CCC. Both trusts will continue operating as two statutory organisations.
