Hospital shortlisted for six national awards
Staff at Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital NHS Foundation Trust are in the running for several prestigious national awards.
The Trust has been successfully shortlisted in three Nursing Times Awards 2013 categories, two additional categories in the Health Service Journal Awards 2013 and a further shortlisted entry in the EHI Awards 2013.
Following a review by the Nursing Times Awards 2013 judging panel, the following entries have been shortlisted:

‘Discharging a ventilated patient home from critical care. A preferred place of care at the end of life’ in the Emergency and Critical Care category

‘Patient group directives - avoiding hospital admission’ in the Respiratory Nursing category

‘Continuous glucose monitoring - an innovative approach to cystic fibrosis related diabetes’ in the Respiratory Nursing category.
The Trust’s Knowsley community chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) service has been shortlisted in two Health Service Journal 2013 award categories – primary care and community service redesign, and secondary care service redesign.
The service was recognised for 'Integrated specialist COPD care in the heart of the community' an expert multi-disciplinary team delivering a highly accessible patient centred service.
Meanwhile, Dr Johan Waktare, Consultant Cardiac Electrophysiologist & Clinical Lead for EPR and IT, has been selected as a finalist at the EHI Awards 2013, in the CCIO Award for Clinical Informatics Leadership category.
This special award is for a clinician who has done the most to promote the vital role of clinical staff in healthcare informatics.

The Nursing Times Awards take place on Wednesday 30th October, the HSJ Awards take place on Tuesday 19th November and the EHI Awards take place on Thursday 10th October.
