Today’s Research, Tomorrow’s Treatment

For many years Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital has pioneered public and patients involvement in all aspects of the hospital environment. Nowhere is this more true than in Research.

Research features strongly in the Trust’s strategic planning. The objective being to improve the health of patients through research and innovation.

The hospital is recognised as a national leader in the involvement of patients/public in all that we do.

As a Trust we are passionate about the involvement of patients, carers and members of the public in research. This led to the establishment of the Service User Research Endeavour (SURE group) back in 2006.

Members of the SURE group receive approved research training and hold an honorary contract with the Trust.

They work with the Trust’s clinicians and Research Committee to help define, implement and monitor the Trust’s research.

They contribute to improving the quality of the research applications, re-view all research documentations given to patients.

How you can help

As a patient or carer you can give a valuable contribution not only by agreeing to participate in a research study but also by becoming a valuable member of this group.

If you are interested in becoming a member of the SURE group, please contact Dr Bashir Matata on telephone number 0151 600 1380 or email: bashir.matata@lhch.nhs.uk

Remember, today’s successful procedures and treatment are a result of research and innovation in the past. You can play a part in the future treatment of patients by being part of research today
