Health event helps to spread the word on Dementia
Liverpool's specialist heart and chest hospital will be holding a Dementia Friends session for members of the public on Wednesday 20th May 2015, 7.30pm at Wrexham Medical Institute, Wrexham, Wrexham Technology Park, LL13 7YP. The event, held in conjunction with local community group, Wrexham Health Support Groups, will form part of a week of activities to mark national Dementia Awareness Week (18th – 24thMay).
Jo Shaw, Dementia Champion at Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (LHCH) will be running the workshop and said:
"LHCH is committed to raising awareness of dementia amongst our patients, their families, carers, staff and members of the public. As a Trust we have created over 1300 Dementia Friends, which is something we are particularly proud of. As a specialist hospital we treat patients from North Wales and felt it was important to hold a Dementia Friends session out in the community."
Joanne added:
“LHCH supported the Alzheimer Society’s aim to sign up one million Dementia Friends by 2015, this was achieved in March 2015, working towards making England and Wales more dementia friendly and improving the lives of hundreds of thousands of people currently living with the condition. Our ‘Dementia Friends’ sessions are a perfect opportunity for local people to come and improve their knowledge. It’s not about creating experts, it’s about helping people understand a little bit more about what it’s like to live with the condition and then turn that understanding into action.”
