Important notice regarding recent media coverage

Please see below statement regarding yesterday's media report:

Professor Aung Oo, Cardiac Surgeon and Associate Medical Director for Surgery at Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital, said: “It is important to emphasise that at no time was the safety of the patient in question put at risk.

“Our arrest procedure was followed as normal and the patient responded to the immediate and expert intervention of the clinical team present and made a full recovery.

“When a cardiac arrest situation arises within our theatre complex our operational procedures to manage these situations are directed by the consultant-led clinical team already in place with the patient. The electronic arrest call system is not used within the theatre complex.

“As a result of the concern raised, we will now be removing this redundant alarm panel.”
