What is a Lung Cancer Screening Team MDT?

This is a multidisciplinary meeting in which the Lung Cancer Screening team are able to review, discuss and decide on care plans for patients following their low dose CT scan and report. 

The Lung Cancer Screening team hold three MDT meetings per week. The MDT meetings are held on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays and are held at Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital.

We discuss approximately 75 patients per week refer into local trusts across Cheshire and Merseyside.

All referrals are made on behalf of the GP. 

Who attends the Lung Cancer Screening MDT Meetings?

The Lung Cancer Screening MDT meeting is led by the nursing team. The meeting are attended by a Consultant Radiologist, Consultant Chest Physician, and Consultant Chest Physician's from our referring trusts (known as LHC Ambassadors).

What is discussed at the Lung Cancer Screening MDT meetings?

  • All possible cancer findings
  • All findings that may require a secondary care referral
  • All findings of Consolidation (as directed by the reporting Radiologist)
  • All findings of Pleural Effusions
  • All mediastinal masses
  • Any other findings that are unclear or require further clarification.
