Advice to GP (Primary Care) following the lung health check appointment
All patients with COPD will have their symptoms and medications reviewed during the Lung Health Check.
Following this the nursing team may make recommendations for you to consider changing your patients COPD medications in line with national and local guidance.
This will be detailed on the Lung Health Check appointment letter and the medication name, dose and frequency should be provided by the Lung Health Check Nurse on the letter.

Smoking Cessation brief intervention
- Smoking Cessation referral
- COPD review and optimisation
- Referral to Pulmonary Rehabilitation Team
- Referral to Spirometry for symptomatic patients (excluding patients with known COPD or who have had diagnostic spirometry in the last 3 years)
- Wirral – GPs are required to prescribe salbutamol inhaler and spacer device
NB: All referrals are made on behalf of the GP.
If the patient reports current symptoms during the LHC, the team will advise the patient to make an appointment with you to discuss these symptoms further.
