Background and Context

The Lung Cancer Screening (formerly Targeted Lung Health Check Programme) is the national lung cancer screening programme for England. It falls within the UK National Screening Committee definitions of targeted and stratified national screening (UK NSC: evidence review process - Gov.uk)

Real world data from the programme so far shows that the early diagnosis of lung cancer in the target population has increased from 28.9% to around 75%. This is a hugely impactful intervention, improving outcomes and saving lives. The primary aim of the programme is to reduce mortality from lung cancer.
