About Margaret
I felt apprehensive when the cardiologist in Wales referred me to LHCH for an ablation procedure in Spring 2023.
The expertise of the cardiology team and the care I received from the nursing and other staff left me with a deep admiration for the work done by this highly rated hospital.
The success of the procedure meant that I could return to the active life which I enjoy.
I was pleased to become Public Governor for North Wales and hope to represent the people of North Wales who need the invaluable care of LHCH.
I studied Geography at Newcastle university with Medical Geography as a final year specialist subject.
In 1977, I trained as a graduate nurse at Guys Hospital and later trained and worked at St John’s Hospital for Diseases of The Skin, (now part of the Guys and St Thomas’ Group.) It was working there that I gained insight into the importance of research trials and treatment development to advance the care and outcomes for patients.
After marriage and children, I completed a PGCE at UEA and spent many years as a primary school teacher.
After retirement I worked as a voluntary tutor on the EPP Cymru patient education programme within the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. I found this worthwhile and satisfying work. I gave up this role, as, like many people, I needed more time to look after my elderly parents.
I hope that my work and life experience will enable me to represent those people from North Wales who require the top-class specialist care at LHCH.
