Almost 40 nurses of all grade levels across the Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital (LHCH) took part in a ‘vox-pop’ to say why they love working at the specialist hospital.

Between them, the Liverpool-based team has worked at the trust for more than 400 years – that’s about a decade’s service each and demonstrates strong commitment and loyalty among the staff.

In both 2016 and 2019 the specialist heart and chest hospital, based in Thomas Drive, in Liverpool, was rated ‘Outstanding’ by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

During January, LHCH is showcasing and celebrating the many reasons why so many of its nurses enjoy the day to day workings at the hospital – and they talk about why the hospital has notched-up two ‘Outstanding’ ratings in just three years.

The nursing staff, who were all from different backgrounds, at different grades and who’d had different career paths, shared from personal experience why it’s so great to work at the Trust.

Many of the nurses have worked in the NHS for many years and have gained tremendous satisfaction by caring for patients, often saving their lives and helping them to recover and live healthier for longer.

Sue Pemberton, Director of Nursing and Quality, said: “I would like to thank all the nurses for helping to compile these short clips for social media and sharing their personal thoughts, for all to hear and learn from their career experiences. What is clear is the fact that we have a loyal and outstanding team of nurses – but we would like more! 

“We hope that nurses from across the North West, and further afield, will hear first-hand from what it’s like to work at LHCH and want to find out more about coming to work with us!”

The Trust is also pleased to hear the recent news that nursing bursary grants are being re-introduced for student nurses from next year. Hopefully this will lead to many more people being able to train as nurses, and joining LHCH in the future.

Nursing Recruitment Open Day
