Charity Concert from the Heart… and for the Heart
A Liverpool musician is hoping to raise thousands of pounds for the specialistLiverpool hospital which saved his life, by holding a fundraising concert later this month.
Kevin Rearden, 51, is inviting music and comedy lovers, both young and old, to join the event at the Epstein Theatre on Friday 28th November in support of the Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital Appeal – a charity close to his heart.
With headline star support from Stan Boardman and live music from Spinners legend, Hughie Jones, supported by Growing Old Disgracefully Dance Company and Mersey Wave Choir, it promises to be a fun-filled night of entertainment.
Kevin spent three days in the specialist heart and chest hospital in Liverpool, after unexpectedly experiencing a major heart attack at home.
He said: “After going to bed one evening with what I mistakenly thought was indigestion, I woke up literally in agony.
“The pain in my chest was unbearable and seemed to be getting worse and worse, until all I could do was curl up on my bedroom floor fearing the worst.
“Somehow in between blacking out, I managed to dial 999 and call for an ambulance.”
Rushed to Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital, Kevin had a successful emergency percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) procedure to open up the coronary artery in his heart.
Kevin continued: “The doctors inserted a small tube with a balloon tip into my arm. The tube was then threaded through my arteries until it reached the coronary arteries of the heart. The balloon was then inflated to open them up and once the coronary arteries were open and blood was flowing normally again, a wire mesh tube or stent was placed in the arteries to keep them open.”
Talking about the care that he received, Kevin added: “I was so lucky that we’ve got such an outstanding heart hospital so close to home.
“I owe my life to all the staff in the hospital, as well as the ambulance crew and phone operator. The personal care and treatment that I received was amazing – I’ll never forget it.
“Now I just want to give something back to say thank you.”
The fundraising event will feature a variety of music and performers, including Kevin, who had his own record label, ‘Logic Records’, and wrote songs and played guitar with local bands for many years. He will be playing three tracks from one of his albums, ‘Seven Years’.
Tickets can be purchased directly from LHCH Appeal office on 0151 600 1409 or from the Epstein Theatre Box Office on 0844 888 4411 or from Ticketline
