Research Interests

I completed a British Heart Foundation funded PhD, investigating the influence of insulin-resistance on vascular regeneration alongside work looking at heart failure outcomes.

I’m currently working with Manchester University to investigate TRIAGE-HF, a novel way of monitoring patients using cardiac implantable electronic devices. I’m also part of a group investigating the potential applications of single chamber ICDs with AF detection capability.

Training and Education

I am a Consultant Cardiologist (with a specialist interest in advanced heart failure and complex pacing/defibrillator implantation). I am passionate about the early diagnosis, treatment and prevention of cardiovascular disease. My aim is to deliver patient focused care in a sensitive and evidence-based manner.

I obtained my medical degree from the University of Leeds (2003) before completing my specialist training in Greater Manchester (accredited in cardiology in addition to general medicine). I then undertook a Post CCT-Fellowship in advanced heart failure and device therapy at Wythenshawe Hospital before taking up my initial consultant post (Heart Failure and Device Lead at Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust ). I have now taken up a consultant post at LHCH as part of the Heart Rhythm team. I have full accreditation from the European Heart Rhythm Association and am also accredited with the British Society of Echocardiography.

I have a strong academic background having completed a PhD at the University of Leeds. I obtained a first class honours BSc degree in pharmacology as an undergraduate, which stimulated an interest in biomedical research. Having obtained my MRCP at the earliest opportunity, I secured short-term funding through the British Heart Foundation (BHF) scholarship scheme to undertake preliminary work in the Division of Cardiovascular and Diabetes Research at the University of Leeds.

I went on to secure a BHF-funded clinical research training fellowship during which time I undertook my proposed project investigating the influence of insulin-resistance on vascular regeneration alongside work looking at heart failure outcomes. I successfully completed my PhD in 2012. During my research period, I obtained over 15 publications in peer-reviewed journals. I presented my research at both national and international meetings and was a finalist for the 'British Cardiovascular Society Young Researcher Award', 'University of Leeds Post-Graduate Researcher Award', 'Diabetes UK Young Researcher Award' and winner of the 'British Atherosclerosis Young Investigator of the year Award'.


About you

I am married with 2 adorable children. I used to play quite a bit of sport but now have to accept I’m not fit enough to play…so I just watch it!!
