After completing basic surgical training in Sheffield, I undertook higher surgical training in Cardiothoracic surgery in Birmingham. This included a period of research funded by a Heart Research UK Fellowship on Cerebral Protection in Aortic Arch Surgery. This led to the award of a MD. I completed my general cardiac training in Middlesbrough, then was awarded an Ethicon Fellowship in Aortic Surgery in Liverpool. I was then appointed Consultant Cardiac & Aortic Surgeon in 2013.
I run the Heart Research UK Aortic Masterclasses. I am the Aortic surgery representative for a national aortic dissection awareness campaign run between Heart Research UK, the Royal College of Emergency Medicine and the Society for Cardiothoracic Surgery.
I am the Course Director for the SCTS ST6 and ST8 courses.
I am the Surgical Audit day lead and the Educational lead for Advanced nurse practitioners at LHCH.
