Electrocardiograms ( ECGs)

This is a non-invasive procedure involving 10 electrodes being placed on the body.
Six electrodes are placed on the chest and 1 electrode on each arm and leg.

Ambulatory monitoring (ECG/BP)

An ambulatory monitor has the ability to record continuous or manually activated electrocardiographic (ECG) data or blood pressure data depending on which analysis is required.

Exercise Tolerance Testing

The test records the electrical activity of the heart (ECG) and blood pressure (BP) whilst walking on a treadmill. Dependant on medical reason every 3 minutes the treadmill will increase in speed and incline.

Echocardiography

An echocardiogram is a painless, non-invasive form of ultrasound that uses sound waves sent through a transducer. These echoes are turned into moving pictures of your heart that can be seen on a video screen.

Types of echocardiograms performed in the Department are:

  1. Transthoracic echocardiography
  2. Stress echocardiography
  3. Transesophageal echocardiography

Pacemaker and Implantable Cardiac Defibrillator (ICD) follow up clinics

During follow up investigation checks on device battery status, lead/s and diagnostic information since the previous visit are made to assess appropriate function.
