Training and Education and Professional Experience
-
I qualified as a doctor at Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School, London in 1989 and I also hold a BSc in Physiology. I passed the MRCP(UK) in 1991. I trained as a radiologist at Guy’s and St Thomas’s Hospitals, London from 1992-97.

I became a fellow of the Royal College of Radiologists in 1995 and In 2004 I was made a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians.

I was appointed a Consultant Cardiothoracic Radiologist at Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital and Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen Hospitals in 1997. I became Lead Radiologist at LHCH in 2002.

Between 2004 and 2007 I was Chair of the Northern Branch of the British Institute of Radiology and was made a fellow of the BIR in 2007.

I have a major interest in the quality of trainee education and I was elected the Regional RCR Education Advisor for Cheshire and Mersey in 2008. I was elected to the RCR Clinical Radiology Faculty Board in 2012. I am also a GMC Associate for training quality assessment.

I am interested in all aspects of imaging of thoracic and heart disease.

I am an associate editor for The British Journal of Radiology and a reviewer for the journals Clinical Radiology and European Radiology.
About John
I was born and schooled in Bristol. I am married (to a Wirralian) with three children and I live in Birkenhead. I enjoy cycling, walking, cricket and golf. I am an ECB level 2 qualified cricket coach and look after a junior team at Oxton Cricket Club.
