Excellent, compassionate and safe care for every patient, every day

500 Mile Coast to Coast (East meets West) Cycle Race

Earlier this year Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital Appeal was lucky enough to be chosen by Merseyrail as their Charity of the Year.   Since then Merseyrail staff, family and friends have been organising and attending events to raise funds so that our hospital can improve the patient experience for the many people in our region suffering from chronic heart and lung disease.

Now, however, members of Merseyrail staff are about to embark on a gruelling challenge that will see them cycle over 500 miles in 4 days.

The Coast to Coast (East meets West) cycle race is due to start from Liverpool on Thursday 15th September.   Starting at 0800hrs every morning the team will cover the following distances:

Day 1, Thursday: Liverpool to Lincoln (via Peak District) - 125 miles.

Day 2, Friday: Lincoln to Skegness to Loughborough - 125 miles.

Day 3, Saturday: Loughborough to Barmouth - 150 miles.

Day 4, Sunday: Barmouth to Liverpool (via Snowdonia) - 100 miles.

On Sunday 18th September the cyclists will finish the race at Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital for a welcome home reception fitting for such a brave team of cyclists.

£35,000 has already been raised by Merseyrail for this cycle challenge and we hope you can help spur on the team by donating to their Justgiving page by clicking onto the following link

The Merseyrail team taking part are:

·         Paul Ankers, AMIP Project Manager;

·         Kerry Sefton, HR Business Partner;

·         Michael Caddock, Station Retailer;

Whilst this event is a challenge for the team they are also hoping to have good fun, with good humour, camaraderie and not too much competitiveness.

If you are free next Sunday 18th September at 6.00 p.m. then please join us because we’d like to invite you, your children, family and friends to welcome home the cyclists.

An informal buffet will be provided in the main reception of the hospital to celebrate their safe arrival so please feel free to join us because the spirit in which Merseyrail staff are continuing to help our patients is remarkable and our hospital is exceptionally grateful to everyone at Merseyrail.
